Analysis and Optimization of the Machining Characteristics of High-Volume Content SiCp/Al Composite in Wire Electrical Discharge Machining

With the properties of high specific strength, small thermal expansion and good abrasive resistance, particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composite is widely used in fields aerospace, automobile electronic communications, etc. However, cutting performance very poor due to severe tool wear low machining efficiency. Wire electrical discharge has been proven be a method for conductive material with any hardness. Even so, high-volume SiCp/Al content still difficult-to-machine wire influence insulative SiC particle. The goal this paper analyze characteristics find optimal process parameters (65 vol.%) machining. Experimental results show that removal includes sublimating, decomposing particle shedding. rate found increase increasing pulse-on time, first then decreasing pulse-off servo voltage, feed tension. Pulse-on time voltage are dominant factors surface roughness. In addition, multi-objective optimization nondominated neighbor immune algorithm presented optimize fast optimized can by 34% reduce roughness 6%. Furthermore, effectiveness Pareto solution verified experiment.
